Parents and Tech: Where to Start
Are you trying to help your parents get on the technology bandwagon? It’s hard enough as it is but if they need a crash course on how to work the toaster you know you’ve got to get involved. Here’s where to start if they’re totally out of the loop:
Computers: If they know how to operate one you’re already two steps ahead of the game. Work on finding them a manageable laptop and talk to them about internet servicethey’ll ask if they have questions.
Phones: If your parents already have a cell phone you’re off to a great start, now see if you can teach them how to text. Once that’s down see if they’re ready for a smart phone but don’t push itthose are hard for some young whippersnappers to operate.
Security Alarms: Do your parents live in a big, old house now that all the kids have moved out? A security system can be a good way for them to learn codes and buttons and it does double duty by protecting them, too.
